Will the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic have an impact on your dentist?

Fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic have an impact on your dentist?

Over the past year, Quebec, much like many countries around the world, has been and continues to be affected by COVID-19. The fourth wave and the Delta variant have been top of the news recently, and the most recent figures seem to indicate a steady increase in the number of cases in the province.

The team at Centre Dentaire Dre Nathalie Kadoch in Montréal’s LaSalle borough would like to share some information about this fourth wave and the measures put in place to deal with it.

The fourth wave and dentists

With the previous waves, you would have thought that dentists were at serious risk of contracting COVID-19, given that they spend their days with patients from a variety of backgrounds. However, a close look at the data reported by Montréal’s public health department shows that no cases of infection in dental clinics have been identified on the Island of Montreal[1], even as the city reported record numbers of cases.

As far back as the fall of 2020, the president of the Ordre des dentistes du Québec, Dr. Guy Lafrance, was not surprised by this finding. He was mentioning that dentists are quite used to working in environments contaminated by bacteria and viruses[2]. For her part, Dr. Nathalie Kadoch says that the staff at her clinic are taking the necessary precautions to disinfect all instruments and work surfaces as well as to ensure that all measures are reviewed before and after the patient’s visit.

Just like with the other waves, our dental clinic is fully prepared, and we will continue to serve our patients with the same level of care as always while respecting the health measures in force.
