As with all health emergencies, it is important to treat dental emergencies as quickly as possible. A number of dental problems can occur suddenly: breaking or losing a tooth, severe pain, swelling, bleeding and so on. It’s a mistake to think these problems can wait. As with any health issue, dental emergencies need to be resolved quickly. Otherwise, an infection can worsen or the pain can become unbearable. 

When to consult for dental emergencies 

You should contact us immediately if you experience any of the following: acute pain, a deep cavity, bleeding, swelling or an accident. We will try to see you as quickly as possible so we can find the source of the problem and above all, give you relief.

What to do after trauma or an accident

If a tooth has broken, fallen out or become loose from a severe impact, it’s crucial to act fast. Call us immediately, and clean any wounds and apply a cold compress to the sensitive area. If the tooth has broken or fallen out, put it in saliva without rinsing it. Bring the tooth to your emergency appointment. If the tooth is loose, put it back in the proper position. If you’ve lost a tooth, don’t wait before seeking care. Otherwise, complications can arise: for instance, adjacent teeth may shift toward the empty space.

What to do if you have a toothache

Toothaches are no fun for anyone. Aside from the obvious pain, they indicate the presence of a serious problem. That’s why it’s important to come see us quickly if you feel a sharp pain. The most common causes of toothache include deep decay, tooth abscess, gum disease and erupting wisdom teeth. If you’re experiencing intense pain, make an appointment right away so that we can determine the exact cause. This can help avoid complications and permanent damage.

What to do if my child’s baby tooth breaks

First, rinse your child’s mouth with lukewarm water and place the broken tooth in saltwater (half a teaspoon of salt in a cup of water). Next, call us for an appointment to assess the situation and check whether there are internal injuries.

What to do if a filling falls out

First, rinse your mouth with lukewarm water. Next, apply orthodontic wax or sugar-free gum to the tooth if it is sensitive or painful. It’s important to contact us quickly to repair the tooth and prevent bacterial infiltration.
