New Canada Dental Benefit up to $650 per Child

Children’s oral health is a priority for every parent. However, financial hardship can stop those seeking preventive or curative treatment for their families. With the interim Canada Dental Benefit, you can reduce the cost of dental care for your family.

Are you eligible for this benefit? How much could you receive? Keep reading to get an answer to these questions!

Who can use this benefit?

If your net family income is less than $90,000 per year and you have a child or children under the age of 12 on July 1, 2023, you may be eligible for the benefit. However, it is only available to children whose dental care is not fully covered by another government program or who do not have private insurance coverage.

If you meet these requirements, you could receive a refund of up to $650 per child for each period. The amount you receive will depend on your income bracket as well as on whether you have full or shared custody.

Two benefit periods

The initial period was from December 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. You can now take advantage of reimbursements for the second period, which covers care received between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024.

If you didn’t receive the benefit during the first period, you may then receive two payments if the cost of dental care exceeds $650. To receive the benefit, you must apply to the CRA, either online through the CRA’s My Account portal or by phone at 1-800-715-8836.

You will then receive a direct deposit within five business days or a cheque within ten business days.
