The holidays are almost here! Many people worry about what they’re going to do to their waistlines when the plates and platters filled with delectable dishes start filling tabletops for weeks on end.

1. Stay Away from Sticky

Fruits seem like the natural option when you want to keep your teeth healthy and happy. Beware, however, that fruits are naturally sugary substances, and sugar is a notable no-no, especially if you’re consuming more than a moderate amount.

In particular, dried fruits should find their way to the bottom of your list. Sticky foods are far more prone to hang around on your teeth and gums long after the enjoyment is over. The sticky stuff enables the sugar to adhere itself to your enamel, which can ultimately lead to decay.

To satisfy your flavor for fruit: Opt for fresh apples. The fibrous content helps scrub teeth while the acidity helps combat bad bacteria.

2. Drink Water with Your Alcohol

Festive spirits are completely normal this time of year, but be mindful that too much alcohol and hanging out for extended periods of time as it can have negative impact to your oral health. A dry mouth, in turn, can lead to gum disease and decay because your mouth needs moisture to wash away worrisome substances.

If you’re going to imbibe: Be sure to drink a glass of water after every alcoholic beverage. Besides keeping you from getting too tipsy too fast, it’ll help your mouth stay moist.

3. Choose Cheese

Cheese plates and meat platters are aplenty this time of year. Allow these to be your go-to edible options when you’re out and about. Of course, the calcium in cheese is good for the health of your teeth, but that’s not the only reason it’s a good choice for a happy mouth.
